Caprica officially cancelled

In unfortunate news for Caprica fans, the drama-heavy prequel to the acclaimed Battlestar Galactica series has officially been axed by network SyFy. Worse still, the final 5 episodes of the season have been pulled from the lineup, and will not air until 2011. The network released the following statement, citing the lackluster ratings as the reason for its cancellation; "We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series. Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, 'Caprica' has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season." The series premiered earlier this year to average ratings before taking its summer break after 9 episodes. It returned this past spring to low viewership, only pulling in a 0.4 rating (or roughly 900,000 viewers) before its inevitable demise. Caprica was set...

Batman 3 titled ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, director Christopher Nolan revealed a few bombshells about the upcoming third, and final, Batman film. The biggest news comes with the revealing of the official title, with Nolan stating the film will be called The Dark Knight Rises. On top of this revelation, the director has disclosed that the film will use many of the characters already familiar through the franchise, but will see the introduction of several new ones; "We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones." However, with villain speculation running high, Nolan has put an end to talks of any inclusion of The Riddler, saying the main villain of the new film "won’t be the Riddler". Fueling still, the question of just who will face off against Batman for what will be the final showdown. Speaking of filming, Nolan has expressed his disinterest...

JJ Abrams’ ‘Super 8′ gets June 2011 release

JJ Abrams' viral-fueled movie Super 8 has got itself a release date. The film, first exposed through this excellent viral trailer, has been shrouded in secrecy, with director Abrams only releasing the following tidbits regarding the film: 1. It takes place in 1979. 2. It pays homage to Steven Spielberg's earliest super 8 (hence the title!) films. 3. Science fiction and supernatural elements are most definitely part of the experience. The cast of the film thus far includes Friday Night Lights' star Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning (Dakota's sister) and relative newcomer Amanda Michalka (of the teen pop group formerly known as Aly & AJ) and has now been given the release date of June 10th, 2011. Much of the pre-release hype comes from the film's lack of information, viral campaigns, and like all of JJ Abrams' projects (both film and television), there seems to be an underlying connection between them all (no matter how small it may be).

Video: Frank Turner – “I Still Believe”

English folk/punk singer Frank Turner has released his new video for "I Still Believe". The track comes from his upcoming EP Rock & Roll, and is expected to be on the track list for his new full length album due in 2011. The video, directed by Ben Morse, features a rollicking good time had by Turner and cohorts, set to speakeasy-toned backdrops and festive celebrations. There are few in this world who capture the essence of being a true folk troubadour the way Frank Turner does. Bless he and his mighty stringed instrument! Who would've thought, after all, something so simple as rock n' roll could save us all?

Live Review: A Night with Stealing O’Neal

The high quality of a live band is apparent if you spend half their set trying to figure out if the whole band is faking it and it’s all being played on a backing track. Stealing O’Neal displayed such talent at their underage album release show. The support acts were also very impressive. On stage first was up-and- coming, five piece, Melbourne alternative rock group, We Rob Banks. With a solid set in their first Melbourne show, expect big things from this band. Secondly, in a massive genre change, hardcore act Dream On, Dreamer took the stage. DOD, who just recently wrapped up touring Australia with American power houses Attack Attack! and Pierce the Veil, pulled out all the stops and got the kids up and moving. Third support act was Gold Coast pop-punk boys, Skyway. While Skyway are good what they do, pop-punk has seemingly been running in circles since the early 2000s. Never the...

James Cameron will direct Avatar 2 & 3 next

The world can now rest easy .... James Cameron has confirmed that his next two projects will be Avatar 2 and Avatar 3. Deadline confirmed that while there were some talks about possibly doing a Cleopatra film with Angelina Jolie, FOX Studios found the winning hand in convincing Cameron to do two Avatar sequels instead; by donating large sums of cold hard cash to his environmental green fund. So he was bribed? Cameron and Fox released an official statement regarding the future of Avatar in which the director commented; "It is a rare and remarkable opportunity when a filmmaker gets to build a fantasy world, and watch it grow, with the resources and partnership of a global media company. AVATAR was conceived as an epic work of fantasy – a world that audiences could visit, across all media platforms, and this moment marks the launch of the next phase of...
